Job Descriptions for the Alabama PSAP

We collected these job descriptions from ECDs across the state of Alabama. We are sharing them with you to help you develop or rewrite your job descriptions. Having an accurate job description is vital for many reasons but the most pressing is reclassification. Since initially posting these, 911.gov has developed a four-part Telecommunicator Job Reclassification Toolkit designed to help Emergency Communications Centers (ECCs) address the changes the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) needs to see to reclassify telecommunicators. While Alabama has recognized telecommunicators as first responders, there is still a lot of work to be done to get this recognition nationwide. Having accurate job descriptions for telecommunicators is vital.

Another advantage to having accurate job descriptions is an easier hiring process. If the job description you post accurately decribes the work that will be performed, you are more likely to get higher quality applicants that will make it through training.

While some of these are marked large or small district, this shows where they came from. No matter what the size of your district, you may find helpful language in any of these job descriptions.
