Greg Silas

Greg Silas serves as Director for City of Birmingham Emergency Communication District. He oversees the City of Birmingham 911 System, Alabama’s largest Metro Area system. Prior to joining Birmingham 911 in 2013, Greg retired from the City of Hoover after serving more than 30 years in Public Safety.  He started his career in Communications as a Dispatcher for City of Pelham in 1980.   Greg currently serves as President of Alabama NENA, after having served as the NENA Birmingham LATA Rep.  Greg also serves on the Alabama Alarm Association Board as Public Safety Director.  He has over 40 years of experience serving the Citizens of Alabama in the 911 public safety field.  Fittingly Greg’s hometown is Haleyville Al, the Home of the first 911 call in the U.S.  He moved to Birmingham in 1980.  He and his wife Susan have five grown children, Meagan, Aaron, Will, Olivia and Alison.
